Crafty Case for Scratchless Shades

I had been meaning to do this for soooooooo long!  So many pairs of sunglasses were left ruined to senseless scratches at the bottom of my purse over the past few summers, that I finally decided that something must be done.  Alas, it was the night before our vacation departure, and what better time to avoid packing than that 10-o'clock hour, when eureka- a moment of creativity came to life!

If it's summer, you'll find me behind a pair of Nine West Sunglasses.  There is no shame is this, it's just what it is.  But I've had the hardest time keeping these free from scratches while they fight for survival in the bottom of my purse.  So while moving some straps on my daughter's sundress, it came to me that now is the time to take action.  I could easily whip up a case for my specs and solve this dilemma once and for all.
The Fabric Central Garden Play Collection Fabric Quarter that I had tucked into the craft cabinet was a perfect canvas to work with.  I ended up placing it on a cutting board, glasses placed on top, and used a rotary cutting tool to cut around the glasses with about an inch on each side.
Next, I ironed out the seams, sewed the edges hem-down, and secured a closure ribbon to the top edge before sewing the sides (inside out).  One thing I stopped to do- pinch those long loose ribbon ends in before sewing up the sides completely, or they won't end up on the "outside- out", like you want!

The total project time on this one was definitely under 30 minutes, and that included the ho-humming about hem width and all!  I hope that this will help me keep my glasses organized in my purse, and free of scratches this summer!
